The Visayas Cluster of the Women Environmental Defenders (WEDefend) Program held its Second Island-Wide Consultation on September 7-8, 2022. The activity aims to help create a nationwide cohort of WEDs (Women Environmental Defenders) across all sectors.
The Visayas activity was jointly implemented by the Philippine Earth Justice Center (PEJC), KAISAHAN Negros Occidental, and PROCESS Panay. There were nine participants each from Cebu, Negros Occidental, and Panay island.
The activity had several specific objectives:
- To organize and strengthen a network of WEDs in the Visayas
- To share initiatives, best practices, and strategies among WEDs and their organizations
- To discuss ongoing campaigns, cases, and other projects, as well as to be updated on new laws and policies which affect environmental protection and conservation in the region
The regions went into group workshops to identify their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. There was also a presentation on She-Heroes for Climate Victory Now! By Niña Estenzo. Afterward, there was more detailed sharing through small group discussions.
