The ALG held a General Assembly last June 11, 2015 at the Hotel La Breza in Quezon City. It was a back-to-back activity from the EnDefense Strategizing Session which was conducted on June 9-10, 2015 at the same venue.
Some updates were given by Atty. Marlon Manuel (ALG National Coordinator) on the programs of the Secretariat. The member organizations gave updates on the Bangsamoro Basic Law, Charter Change (Cha-Cha), and the pending bills which the members and the network are pushing for. Atty. Marlon also announced that the ALG website is now www.alternativelawgroups.ph (from the former www.alternativelawgroups.org).
HLAF (Humanitarian legal Assistance Foundation) is an NGO that is interested to apply for ALG membership. HLAF is a Non-Government, non-profit Organization that forwards the rights, welfare and well-being of persons behind bars, especially those who need special assistance like the sick, elderly and the children in conflict with the law (CICL). They had 3 endorsements from other ALG member organizations (requirement is at least 2), but the rule states that membership of new members has to be approved through a GA. However, since there was no quorum, the body agreed to provide an initial approval, provide a probationary period of one year, then grant a final approval by the next/full GA.
