ENDEFENSE PROGRAM HOLDS STRATEGIZING SESSION

The Environmental Defense (EnDefense) Program launched a Strategizing Session on July 28-29, 2016 at the Microtel Technohub, Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City.

Since its launch in July 2008, the EnDefense Program has proven to be a unique and innovative program that supported strategic litigation for the environment.  The participants from EnDefense grantees and partner institutions reviewed the prospects for environmental protection and litigation under the Duterte administration, especially with the appointment of Ms. Regina “Gina” Lopez as the new Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary.

The participants shared their experiences on their cases and identified possible priority cases for the future. There was a special session to discuss the Marinduque Marcopper mining case. There was also a special session on project Hustisya Natin (an EU-funded project that focuses on participation of CSOs in monitoring judicial and quasi-judicial bodies) since there will be future linkages and cooperation between the EnDefense and Hustisya Natin projects.

EnDefense is a collaborative program of the Foundation for the Philippine Environment (FPE) and the Philippine Tropical Forest Conservation Foundation (PTFCF), with ALG as Program Administrator.
